Stations of the Cross at St. Francis.

Then Jesus said to all,
"If anyone wishes to come after me,
he must deny himself and wake up his cross daily
and follow me."

(Luke 9:23)
Jesus beckons us to follow.  Will we?  Will we set aside our own ways this day and every day, to follow the Lamb wherever he goes?

Life on earth is a pilgrimage.  The Way of the Cross gives us stations, stopping points where we can pause to contemplate who it is we are following.  By drawing close to Jesus in prayer, and especially in the Eucharist where we receive the Body and Blood, we obtain from him the strength to follow him wherever he goes.

In the Way of the Cross, we follow Jesus as he takes up his cross, dies on the cross and is taken, to the sepulcher from which he rose.

The Way of the Cross — or the Stations of the Cross — seem to be reserved for the Lenten Season.  That makes sense.  Lent is the season leading up to a period when Jesus was condemned and died on the cross; and then arose again.  Typically the stations of the cross are done among a set of crosses or stations where we do our personal pilgrimage from station-to-station.  However, figuratively, our personal journey among the stations is often done by a priest or parishioner in a church, while we participate from our pews.

But we can do it ourselves in a private state of prayer, and we can do it year-around.  During the spring of 2021, the St. Francis Altar Society purchased copies of the Magnificat — The Way Of The Cross for our parishioners.[1]  This book is compact and beautifully illustrated.  It can be used during the Stations of the Cross among parishioners, or by ourselves.

For private prayer, we have added another option.  Links below will provide a simple "virtual"  Way Of The Cross.  Our "Way" will be with photographs of the beautiful, vintage stations in our own St, Francis de Heironymo Catholic Church; combined with the essence of Father Hofer's Way Of The Cross.  The first link is below and each Station page has a similar link — a link on the last page brings you back here.

Use your copy of Magnificat - Way of The Cross, or pray on your own with our on-line-Stations of the Cross.

Note:
1.  A BIG THANK YOU to the ladies of the Altar Society for providing copies of Magnificat - The Way Of The Cross!  Our copy of The Way Of The Cross, was composed by Father Andrew Hofer O. P., originally from St. Paul, and Edited by Father Sebastian White O. P.   Both priests are of the Dominican Order.

The two opening paragraphs, on this page, were paraphrased from the Magnificat - The Way of the Cross.  The bible passages and quotes for each station came from the same source.  We did not try to duplicate Fr. Hofer's work, but rather to make the stations pocket - portable and cell-phone accessible, if desired.

2.  MAGNIFICAT offers a large variety of Catholic adult and children's literature, pilgrimages and other things.  Here is a link into the  MAGNIFICAT Bookstore.   We encourage you to go in and look around.  Much of their merchandise is very reasonably priced.  We will add a dedicated link to our website later.
