Stewardship Council

Stewardship is a way of life and a vital part of the Diocese of Wichita. Giving of our Time, our talent and our Treasure and bringing us closer to God was the message Father Thomas McGread brought to Saint Francis of Assisi parish in Wichita, Kansas when he was appointed pastor in 1968[1]. He brought with him a vision from the words of Saint Peter:  “As each one has received a gift, Use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” (1 Peter 4:10).  The image above depicts Jesus Extending his hand to Mary Magdalen.

Introduction.
Stewardship is the grateful response of a Disciple of Christ Jesus who recognizes and receives God's gifts and shares those gifts with others for Love of God and Love of neighbor. By doing so he/she becomes witness before all the world.

All that we have and all that we are is a gift from a loving and generous God.  God has given us Time, Talent and Treasure. Our faith is the greatest gift of God that we have received through the Church.  Stewardship is a way of life recognizing all these gifts with a grateful heart:

We are the stewards of these gifts. What we have received is what we have to give back to God. With freedom of the children of God we share these gifts for the good of others under the leadership of the Parish Community. It is not about raising money or recruiting volunteers but to live our Catholic faith in a concrete way and to grow in our spirituality.

Our Stewardship Council.

The purpose of our Stewardship Council is to implement the diocesan wide, parish based stewardship way of life—that is: To free the gifts of the Body of Christ in the Diocese of Wichita through parish enrichment and diocesan assistance, with a view toward increased diocesan unity.  In doing so we have adopted the following vision and mission statements:

Vision Statement:  We implement Catholic Stewardship in our community to unite us in building up our faith.

Mission Statement:  The Stewardship Council of the parishes leads, serves and invites the parishioners as they live
their Catholic Faith by means of a total Stewardship way of life.

Our council meets monthly, usually on the first Sunday of the month in the rectory basement meeting room.

[2]  Father Thomas McGread served as The St. Ambrose pastor from 1963 to 1965.  Later, in 1968, he was assigned to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Wichita, where he served until his retirement in 1999.  It was during his time at St. Francis of Assisi that he developed his vision of stewardship as a way of life.  From his vision and leadership his three-fold concept of stewardship—Time, Talent and Treasure began to thrive and spread.   It spread among parishes in the Diocese of Wichita, then among other dioceses and eventually around the world.  We, at St. Ambrose, Erie, are proud to have been a part of his early efforts to conceive his concept of stewardship.

Msgr. McGread passed away on April 1, 2013 at the age of 84.  He is recognized as the most influential advocate of stewardship as a way of life.   The photo of Msgr. McGread is credited to Catholic Stewardship Consultants, Inc.
